Hair Extensions in Fort Wayne: How to Choose the Right Method

Dreaming of longer, fuller hair? Hair extensions can give you the length, volume or color you've always wanted, without years of waiting. But with so many methods out there, how do you know which one is right for you?
At Pin-Up Curls Salon, Spa & Boutique in Fort Wayne, our certified extension artists offer five methods. Here's a simple guide to help you find your perfect match, Curlfriend.
Start With Your Goal
Before you think about methods, think about what you want your extensions to do:
Length: You want longer hair now.
Volume: You love your length but want thicker, fuller hair.
Color: You want dimension or a pop of color without lightening your own hair.
All of the above: Totally possible!
Your goal, your hair type and your lifestyle all help us choose the best method for you.
The 5 Extension Methods We Offer
Beaded Weft
Rows of hair are attached to small beads placed along a section of your natural hair, with no glue and no heat. Beaded wefts are a great choice when you want a lot of fullness and length, and they're easy to move up as your hair grows.
Hand-Tied Weft
Very thin, flexible wefts that are hand-sewn by the hair maker. Because they're so thin, they lie flat and blend beautifully, which makes them a favorite for guests with finer hair who want volume without bulk.
Butterfly Weft
A newer, lightweight weft designed to sit flat and move naturally. Butterfly wefts give a seamless blend with less bulk at the attachment, so they're super comfortable for everyday wear.
Tape-In
Thin panels of hair are sandwiched around small sections of your natural hair with a gentle adhesive. Tape-ins are quick to install, lie very flat and are a great option if you want a natural look for length or a little extra density.
K-Tip
Individual strands are attached with a small keratin bond. Because each piece is placed one at a time, K-tips give a very natural, flexible result and are ideal for adding volume in specific spots or wearing your hair up.
Are Extensions Right for Me?
Most guests are great candidates! A few things to know:
Your natural hair should be longer than chin length so the extensions blend seamlessly.
If your hair is very sparse on top, extensions may not be the best fit. Your Curl can talk through other options with you.
You can absolutely work out and swim with extensions. Just wear your hair in a ponytail or braid, and choose a mineral sunscreen, since some sunscreens can tint extension hair.
What to Expect
Consultation: Every extension journey starts with a $30 consultation. Your extension artist looks at your natural hair, talks through your goals, recommends the best method, color matches your hair and gives you a personalized quote.
Custom hair order: Your hair is ordered just for you. Most hair arrives within 1 week.
Install day: Your extensions are installed, blended and styled so you walk out feeling amazing.
Maintenance: Plan to come back every 6 to 8 weeks to have your extensions moved up. This keeps them comfortable and protects your natural hair.
Caring for Your Extensions at Home
The right care helps your extensions look beautiful longer. Brush gently from the ends up, sleep with your hair in a loose braid, and use professional products made for extensions. Your Curl will send you home with a care guide and recommend the best products from our O&M and Eufora lines.
