Tips for Curly Hair

1. Get a Good Cut

Start with a clean slate and get a good haircut to get rid of any dry, dead ends!

2. Use the Right Shampoo

Our favorite is the EUFORA Curl’n Enhancing Shampoo that is lightweight, restoring moisture, combats frizz, enhances manageability and shine for healthy bouncy curls.

3. Condition, Condition, Condition

Curls tend to be dry, due to their spiraled shape. It’s hard for oils to travel down the strand of the curl. That’s why they get frizzy.

Give your curls the moisture they crave. We have several options so talk to your stylist. Say yes to deep conditioning treatments when at the salon. Stick to a weekly home deep conditioning mask to help nourish your hair. Try our Curl'n Enhancing Conditioner made specifically for frizz and curls.

4. Comb and Don't Brush

Never brush your curls dry. This will ruin the natural curl pattern and cause frizz. Use tools made for curls like a pic or wide tooth comb. Be sure your hair is wet when combing. To give your hair extra slip when detangling try this in the shower when your conditioning your hair.

5. Apply Stylers Strategically

You need to apply products that reduce frizz and help hold your curl pattern. It's also best to apply product when your hair is the smoothest, which is when your getting out of the shower and your hair is wet. In order to seal moisture and hold your curl pattern, you need to use stylers with hold like our Curl'n Defining Solution. A styling foam that tames frizziness, fights humidity and provides soft curls a hold without the crunch. Another Curl favorite is our Leave-in Curl Activator prep spray. It leaves hair soft, shiny and frizz-free. It can also be used to revitalize second day curls and combats unwanted odors.

6. Reduce Friction

Don't go crazy with towel drying, it will ruffle the hair cuticle. A normal towel will dry out your hair and the roughness can cause more frizz. Opt for a soft microfiber towel from The Curl.

7. Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Sleeping on a satin pillowcase is a game changer for your curls. The silk is smooth and allows you to sleep without causing friction to the hair. This helps to maintain your curls, creating less frizz and less wrinkles. Silk doesn't absorb as much of your natural oils which allows you to maintain moisture and won't dry out your hair. It's a great investment as it is equally as good for your skin, eyelashes and eyebrows too!

8. Work With Your Hair, Not Against It

Embrace it, work with what your mama gave you! Trying to flatten your curls is the opposite of what you should be doing. Make sure you spend time experimenting on different ways to style your hair, so you find what works for you.

Fixing the Frizz starts way before you style your hair. Incorporating some of these tips, and establishing healthy and consistent habits into your daily routine, will create great hair days.
